Engineers in food
Nibble, nibble, munch, munch - an engineer helped make your lunch! The global population is seven billion and growing, and it’s engineers who are working out the safest, tastiest and most efficient ways to feed you, and the rest of the world.
Some engineers are like a real-life Willy Wonka, designing machines that can make 700 chocolate bars per minute. Others might be looking at chemicals and processes that help food stay fresh for longer, while some look at packaging to protect delicate dishes on bumpy journeys. Genetic engineers are even exploring how to add extra nutrition to existing foods.
It’s a really important and varied industry to work in.
